One of the challenges in selling is staying ahead of the curve (technological, competitive, etc).

There is so much to know, and it’s scary to go into a call and get asked questions you don’t know the answer to.  To be asked about products, companies, platforms etc that you may never have heard of.

Sometimes you will be asked to do things you’ve never done.

Sometimes you will be asked for materials you’ve never created before.

Expect it.

Embrace it.

Revel in it!

DO NOT FEAR THE UNKNOWN…

The more new things you learn, and the faster you learn them, the more you can grow as a person and as a sales professional!

Learn to “know what you don’t know”.  It’s easier than you think.

When talking to a customer / prospect and they ask you about something you’ve never heard of before

  1. Google it right there & then!
  2. Respond with “oh is that XXXXXX?”.
  3. Then add “I’m not really that familiar with that can you tell me more?”.

You sound professional AND you learn something new at the same time.

Start with the web – do some research – get committed to knowledge and learning.  Self-reliance with the ability to solve problems on your own is a combination that will take you far.

In today’s world it has never been easier to learn and to “know what you don’t know”!

And trust me on this one, your customers will thank you for it!
