There is a reason why great leaders lead from the front – they do it to inspire but its also the only way they can truly see for themselves. They have removed the “degrees of separation” and are able to see things unfiltered to make their own true judgement.
So what does this mean?
It means that you need get out in the field and get your hands dirty!
- Visit Customers
- Make sales calls
- Close some opportunities
- Call a difficult customer and resolve an issue
- Personally make some customer satisfaction calls
The list goes on and on…
And remember sales should NEVER be the only group speaking with customers – other departments should demand access not cede communication to sales people only.
No matter how high up in the food chain you are, or which dept you reside in, the only true way to know what is going on with your customers / market is to Get Your Hands Dirty!
And that goes double for sales!
