I was at a sales meeting recently discussing our plans with a bunch of non-salespeople. These meetings always need to include all the other departments we interact with.
The meetings all went well – we shared all the info we needed and came to some good conclusions. Still, one thing kinda rankled me. I realized that a lot of what these other departments do is go to these meetings, make some plans, try some new things, and then see how it goes.
As soon as the people on the sales team meeting went home, we would just sit there and look at our pipelines. “How much and when?” Those were the words that we were going to face. What we do in sales is so different from other departments. There is a finish line to all our work – the end of the quarter, the end of the month, the end of the year. All that matters is what happens then.
So, enjoy the video below. There is a bit of an intro, but it gets good. We all deserve a few good expense reports for delivering those results!
